Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts Increase for US and Canada

According to Baker Hughes data from December 30, 2016, the U.S rig count for the week was 658 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This is up 5 rigs compared to last week, with oil rigs up 2 to 525 rigs, gas rigs up 3 to 132 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to this time last year, the 658 count is down 40 rigs, with oil rigs down 11, gas rigs down 30, and miscellaneous rigs up 1.
The Canadian rig count decreased by 67 to 157 rigs this past week, with oil rigs down 54 to 52 rigs, gas rigs down 13 to 100 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 5 rigs. Compared to last year the 157 count is up 74 rigs, with oil rigs up 40, gas rigs up 29, and miscellaneous rigs up 5. International rigs increased by 5 to 925 rigs for the month of November, a decrease of 184 rigs from the same month one year ago.
