    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts Increase in US and Canada

    According to Baker Hughes data from January 27, 2017, the U.S rig count for the week was 712 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This is up 18 rigs compared to last week, with oil rigs up 15 to 566 rigs, gas rigs up 3 to 145 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to this time last year, the 712 count is up 93 rigs, with oil rigs up 68, gas rigs up 24, and miscellaneous rigs up 1.

    The Canadian rig count increased by 3 to 345 rigs this past week, with oil rigs up 7 to 200 rigs, gas rigs down 4 to 145 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 0 rigs. Compared to last year the 345 count is up 114 rigs, with oil rigs up 74, gas rigs up 40, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. International rigs increased by 4 to 929 rigs for the month of December, a decrease of 166 rigs from the same month one year ago.     Price on Trade: Milwaukee Framework is a step forward on steel excess capacity

    Members of the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity (GFSEC) met in Wisconsin last week and unveiled an updated plan to combat market-distorting excess capacity.
