Uttam Pauses Shipments to U.S. Due to 232

Uttam Galva North America, Inc. (UGNA), a supplier of cold rolled and galvanized steels, tells SMU it has temporarily suspended taking new orders in the United States for its mill in India in reaction to the Section 232 investigation.
“For the last few weeks, we have stayed on the sidelines while 232 is being analyzed and our trade counsel prepare for a potential first AD/CVD review this summer. That’s a matter of minimizing the risk profile. We anticipate taking new orders for August shipment in due course,” said a company spokesman. Two inbound shipments currently on the water will be delivered to customers.
UGNA is committed to the U.S. market and supplying light-gauge steel products that are not readily available from U.S. producers. “Uttam’s strategy has always been one to complement the available product range rather than to displace domestic steel production,” the spokesman said.
UGNA’s relationship with Jindal Steel is unchanged. “JSW is a valued hot rolled coil supplier to Uttam, which has been this way for many years,” the spokesman added.
