AK Steel Rockport Workers Ratify Contract

Union members at AK Steel Rockport Works have ratified a new four-year labor agreement. The agreement covers 319 hourly production employees of the United Auto Workers (UAW) and will be in effect until Sept. 30, 2021.
Rockport Works produces a full range of cold rolled carbon, coated and stainless steels, with many of the products coated and processed at Rockport used in the automotive industry.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement at our Rockport Works ahead of the expiration date,” said Roger K. Newport, chief executive officer of AK Steel. “The new agreement provides a competitive labor contract that advances the interests of our employees and the company.”

U.S. Steel posted slightly lower Q1’24 earnings as stronger earnings from its sheet mills were partially offset by a weaker performance from it tubular division. All told, the Pittsburgh-based steelmaker reported Q1’24 earnings of $171 million. That's down 14.1% from $199 million in Q1’23 on sales that fell 6.9% to $4.16 billion in the same comparison.
