SMU Steel Summit 2018 Should Be the Largest Ever

Steel Market Update has been pulling out all of the stops as we prepare to host the fastest growing and the largest steel conference in North America at the end of August. This year’s SMU Steel Summit Conference is expected to attract 750+ executives in manufacturing, service centers, steel mills, trading companies, toll processors and the many suppliers that work with the industry.
This year’s conference will continue our focus on youth and on changes to the industry that are “disruptive.” Change is coming to the industry and we will be the first to cover it in detail.
Our conference has always had forecasting as one of its core values. We will continue to have presenters who will speak to where steel prices and commodity prices are expected to be in 2019. SMU will have speakers who will address the economy and what impact trade or government actions are having that may impact your business.
SMU Publisher John Packard will sit down with Nucor CEO John Ferriola to discuss the challenges and opportunities the industry faces during the coming months and years.
Our Steel Summit Conference is already well established as one of the premier events in North America for networking with other decision makers from across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the rest of the world.
The convenient location of the conference at the Georgia International Convention Center located right next to the world’s largest international airport makes it easy to get in and out in just a matter of minutes with no cab or rental car needed. The GICC and the hotels used for the conference are literally less than a five-minute ride on the free SkyTrain, which goes directly from the airport to the facilities we use.
The conference schedule allows for travel time during the morning hours of Monday, Aug. 27, as our program begins at the GICC during the early afternoon hours. You will be able to catch a late afternoon/early evening flight home on Wednesday as we will end the conference no later than 3 p.m. ET.
Cost for the conference is $1,275 per person with $100 per person discounts provided for SMU member companies (subscribers) and an additional discount for those companies bringing two or more people to the event.

Nucor holds weekly HRC price steady after last week’s cut
Nucor chose to hold its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled (HR) coil steady this week after stunning the market last week with a significant price decline. The steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Monday morning that its $760-per-short-ton (st) CSP base price for HR coil is effective immediately. The price is unchanged from the CSP announced on May 6 but down $65/st from $825/st April 29.
US CR tags ease, premium over imports still high
Offshore cold-rolled (CR) coil prices remain much less expensive than domestic product, even as domestic prices have slipped to a six-month low, according to SMU’s latest check of the market.
