Nucor suffered a fire Monday that knocked out one of the two electric arc furnaces at its Longview, Texas, plate mill. The company is repairing the damage and expects little impact on customers.
In an email to Steel Market Update, a company spokesperson said the incident caused no injuries or environmental impact. “Operations have resumed on the second furnace and repairs are under way on the damaged furnace. We are discussing any potential disruption of service or delivery with our customers. However, we believe the impact will be minimal and the Nucor Plate group will be able to continue to meet our customers’ needs,” she stated.
The Longview carbon and alloy plate mill is one of Nucor’s smaller facilities with an annual capacity of 180,000 tons.
