No one was injured as a result of a small fire at a conveyor belt at ArcelorMittal Cleveland, which was was brought under control by the Cleveland Fire Department on Thursday. The company said it does not expect the incident to affect production at the mill.
Firefighters used foam to extinguish flames that persisted for approximately three hours. According to the Cleveland Fire Department, the rubber conveyor belt fell two stories below ground, causing pockets of flame. A hazmat unit was also called to the scene.
A spokesperson at ArcelorMittal said the fire was isolated to a coke breeze belt in the iron production area.
