October Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipments Up 10.2 Percent

Total heating and cooling equipment shipments in October rose 10.2 percent compared to one year ago, according to data released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) on Wednesday. Aside from the 5.1 percent slip in September, total monthly equipment shipments on a year-over-year basis had increased every month since October 2016.
Residential and commercial storage water heater shipments rose 5.7 percent year over year to a combined 732,687 units; 715,022 units were shipped for residential use and 17,665 units for commercial use.
Shipments of warm air furnaces totaled 319,956 units in October, soaring up 20.0 percent compared to the same month last year.
Central air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments rose 11.4 percent over a year ago to 507,199 total units; 311,728 air conditioners and 195,471 heat pumps were shipped.
