November Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipments Rise 2.4 Percent

Total heating and cooling equipment shipments in November rose 2.4 percent compared to one year ago, according to data released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) on Friday. Aside from the 5.1 percent slip in September, total monthly equipment shipments on a year-over-year basis had increased every month since November 2016.
Residential and commercial storage water heater shipments fell 1.7 percent year over year to a combined 677,709 units; 660,964 units were shipped for residential use and 16,745 units for commercial use.
Shipments of warm air furnaces totaled 315,931 units in November, up 9.4 percent compared to the same month last year.
Central air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments rose 4.3 percent over a year ago to 450,399 total units; 274,586 air conditioners and 175,813 heat pumps were shipped.
