February Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipments Steady

Heating and cooling equipment shipments totaled 1.49 million units in February, up 0.7 percent compared to one year ago, according to data recently released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). Excluding the 5.1 percent slip last September, total monthly equipment shipments on a year-over-year basis have increased every month since November 2016.
Residential and commercial storage water heater shipments fell 5.4 percent year over year to a combined 712,418 units; 693,383 units were shipped for residential use and 19,035 units for commercial use.
Shipments of warm air furnaces totaled 249,155 units in February, up 18.0 percent compared to the same month last year.
Central air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments rose 2.4 percent over a year ago to 528,416 total units; 315,183 air conditioners and 213,233 heat pumps were shipped.
