Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipments Dip in May

Heating and cooling equipment shipments were just over two million units in May, down 2.4 percent compared to one year ago, according to data recently released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). This is the second consecutive month that total monthly equipment shipments have declined on a year-over-year basis since September 2018.
Residential and commercial storage water heater shipments fell 11.9 percent year over year to a combined 721,664 units; 700,903 units were shipped for residential use and 20,761 units for commercial use.
Shipments of warm air furnaces totaled 292,846 units in May, up 4.9 percent compared to the same month last year.
Central air conditioners and air-source heat pump shipments rose 3.5 percent over a year ago to 1,005,646 total units; 659,423 air conditioners and 346,223 heat pumps were shipped.
