Fire at AK Steel Mansfield

A fire at the AK Steel Mansfield facility reportedly caused serious burns to a female employee who was working near the ladle in the melt shop.
Mansfield Fire Department received a call at 5:12 pm regarding an explosion and fire at the plant. By the time firefighters arrived the fire was under control by AK employees.
The injured woman was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital.
A spokeswoman for AK Steel said, “We can confirm that there was a reaction at a furnace at Mansfield Works a little after 5 p.m. on Friday. One employee was injured and transported to the hospital, and we are working to determine the cause of the situation.”
AK Steel did not indicate whether the furnace is still in operation or what type of damage may have occurred.
