Another Fire at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor

A fire at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor East on Friday resulted in the evacuation of workers from the hot strip mill.
An ArcelorMittal spokesperson said the fire broke out at the 80-inch HSM #3 Coiler late Friday afternoon, Feb. 21. There were no injuries or explosions as a result of the fire.
“The two other coilers at the 80-inch HSM, Coilers #1 and #2, avoided damage during the event. The mill is operating and capable of meeting normal production rates with two coilers,” said the spokesperson.
The company said it does not expect the incident to affect Indiana Harbor’s ability to meet customer demand.
The Indiana Harbor #4 facility has returned to operation after a fire caused a temporary outage in December. Current production is through the #4 and #7 blast furnaces.
