SMU Price Ranges & Indices: Flat Rolled Inches Up Another $10
Written by Brett Linton
June 9, 2020
Steel prices have been clawing their way back since hot rolled hit a low of $460 per ton in late April, moving up by $10 in the past week and recovering roughly $55 over the past five weeks to the current $515 per ton. The mills have managed to collect some, but certainly not all, of the two price increases they announced in May. Where prices go from here is anyone’s guess as steel demand will depend on how quickly the economy recovers from the unprecedented effects of the coronavirus. Steel Market Update’s Price Momentum Indicators remain at Neutral until the market offers additional clarity.
