    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts in U.S. and Canada

    The drill rig counts in the U.S and Canada were mixed this week, according to updated data released by oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The active drill rigs count is important to the steel industry because it is a leading indicator of oil country tubular goods demand.

    The number of active U.S. rigs fell by 2 this week to 310, with oil rigs down 5, gas rigs up 3, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. Compared to this time last year, this week’s count is down 493 rigs, with oil rigs down 440, gas rigs down 53, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged.     Price on Trade: Milwaukee Framework is a step forward on steel excess capacity

    Members of the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity (GFSEC) met in Wisconsin last week and unveiled an updated plan to combat market-distorting excess capacity.
