On Tuesday, Jan. 14, USS POSCO notified customers of an upward revision to their galvanized steel coating extras, to apply on all new orders effective immediately.
UPI is the fourth mill to revise their galvanized coating extras recently, following NLMK, CSI, and Nucor.
SMU has done an analysis on the old and new extras, provided below. UPI extras increased between 18 and 22 percent.
Earlier this week, SMU polled steel buyers on an array of topics, ranging from market prices, demand, and inventories to tariffs, imports, and evolving market events.
Oregon Steel Mills is attempting to push spot plate prices up by at least $60 per short ton.
Hot-rolled and cold-rolled prices held steady again this week while prices for coated products and plate continued to tick upward.
Nucor said its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled coil will be $1,135 per short ton (st) for the week of July 13, up $5/st from last week.
Some domestic hot-rolled (HR) coil market participants say they expect prices remain stable through the end of 2026. Asked why prices would hold and not slip, sources said they anticipate mills won’t suddenly have much more capacity for spot orders.
