2022 SMU Steel Summit Conference: Where Decision Makers Meet

Written by John Packard

The 2022 SMU Steel Summit Conference is only 13 weeks away, and we are looking forward to providing a quality program filled with knowledgeable and interesting speakers. We know your time is valuable, so we have gone the extra mile to provide an environment that will allow you to gather intelligence about the marketplace while also being able to network with many of your customers and suppliers.

This is the only flat rolled and plate focused steel conference in North America where you will find such a high concentration of decision makers. These include heads of purchasing, heads of sales, vice presidents, chief financial officers, presidents, and CEOs representing manufacturers, steel distributors/wholesalers, steel mills, trading companies, toll processors, and dozens of companies who serve those industries.

Over the past few working days, the following companies registered their decision makers to attend the 2022 SMU Steel Summit Conference, which will be held in Atlanta on August 22-24. Those with an asterisk (*) means more than one executive is attending from that company: Aceroteca Metals LLC*, ATAS International Inc.*, B&W Trailer Hitches*, Blackhawk Steel, Blair Strip Steel, Briccetti & Associates, ClarkDietrich Building Systems*, Commercial Metal Forming, Ferragon Corporation*, Ferrous Metal Products, Georg North America Inc.*, Hannibal Industries, Heritage Capital Group, Lennox International*, Medtrade, Inc.*, Metal Edge Partners LLC*, Microsoft, Optima Steel International, LLC*, S&P Global Market Intelligence, StaalX LLC, State Steel Supply Company, SteelOrbis, Universal Steel*

You can join the anticipated 400+ companies and 1,200 executives by clicking here to register.

Steel SummitSome Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: Are all the hotels sold out in the Gateway Center?

Answer: There are still rooms available under our room blocks. Your company must first register to attend the event before you are able to access the room block. Once registered, we will send you a link that takes you to the hotel registration page. This includes the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway Hotel, the Atlanta Airport Renaissance Gateway Hotel, the Atlanta Airport SpringHill Suites Gateway Hotel, and the Atlanta Airport AC Hotel, which is also located in the Gateway area next to the Georgia International Convention Center. If you receive a solicitation from a third-party trying to get you to register hotel rooms through them, please be advised they are in no way associated with SMU or CRU and you book with them at your own risk.

Question: Will this be a hybrid event as it was last year?

Answer: Our intention is to have this be an in-person event only.

Question: In the past you had an app that could be downloaded onto our phones from which we could access other attendees, the agenda for the conference, etc. Will you have that app available this year?

Answer: We will have an app available that you will be able to download in late July/early August. We are upgrading to a new app that will have more networking features available for our registered attendees. The app will also allow you to stream the event on your phone or computer should you be in a meeting away from the main convention center. More information will be coming out on the new app over the next few weeks.

Question: Do you offer discounts for SMU/CRU member companies and for those companies that want to send more than one person?

Answer: Yes, we offer a $100-per-person discount for any SMU or CRU subscribing company. Yes, we also offer an additional $100-per-person discount for companies that registered more than one executive to attend the conference. You can obtain these discounts during the registration process on our website. If you have any questions about how to obtain the discount(s), please contact conferences@crugroup.com

Question: When does the conference begin, and when will it end?

Answer: Our Pre-Summit Conference Workshops begin at 9 AM ET on Monday, Aug. 22. The main speakers begin at 1 PM ET the same day. Lunch will be provided for those arriving early. The conference will conclude at approximately 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Question: How far away is the closest airport, and how long does it take to get from the airport to the convention center?

Answer: The Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is located about 5-10 minutes away from the Georgia International Convention Center. There is a direct free tram (light rail train) that goes directly from the airport to the Gateway Center, which includes the hotels and the convention center. The second stop on this tram is the car rental center. There are no other stops. To get from the tram stop to the convention center is no more than a five-minute walk. The hotels are also within a five- to seven-minute walk from the tram stop.

Question: Where can I find more information about the conference agenda, speakers, costs to attend, etc.?
