USS To Lay Off 105 IT Workers

U.S. Steel said it is laying off 105 IT workers in Pittsburgh, according to a November WARN notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to deliver on our Best for All strategy, on Nov. 1, we moved forward with changes to our IT operating model, including a restructure of the work performed by our IT function,” a spokeswoman for the company said in a statement to SMU on Monday.
The layoffs begin on Jan. 2 and will continue periodically, the WARN notice stated.
The workers are employed at the steelmaker’s Pittsburgh Service Center on Muriel Street and the layoffs will be permanent, according to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette on Nov. 3.
“Our focus is on treating our colleagues with dignity and respect during this transition and as they exit the organization in the weeks and months ahead,” the spokeswoman added.
