The 2024 Tampa Steel Conference is only nine weeks away. Tampa Steel is one of the premier steel conferences in the country. It is a great follow-up to the record-breaking SMU Steel Summit in August.
The event runs from Sunday-Tuesday, Jan. 28-30 and will be at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street hotel. We anticipate beating last year’s mark with over 500 attendees.
There will be an outdoor networking reception on Sunday evening. A golf tournament and a harbor tour of Port Tampa Bay are slated for Monday morning, with the conference program beginning on Monday afternoon.
You’ll want to book your accommodations soon this year because rooms are going fast. This period is high season for tourism in Florida and just follows the Gasparilla pirate festival. You can learn more about the agenda, explore networking opportunities, and register here.

Final Thoughts
Steel equities and steel futures fell hard after news broke earlier this week that the US and Mexico might reach an agreement that would result in the 50% Section 232 tariff coming off Mexican steel. The sharp declines didn’t make much sense, especially if, as some reports indicate, Mexico might agree to a fixed quota. They didn't make sense even if steel flows between the US and Mexico remain unchanged.

SMU Survey: Mills less negotiable on sheet prices, buyers say
Most steel buyers responding to our market survey this week reported that domestic mills are considerably less willing to talk price on sheet products than they were in recent weeks, but remain open to bargain on plate prices.
