SDI's Pushis leaving for titanium, Alvarez stepping up

Longtime Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) executive Glenn Pushis will be retiring from the company to become CEO of Project Aero, a company that plans to build a titanium plant in North Carolina.
Pushis will retire from SDI on Oct. 1, 2025. But he will continue to consult for the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based steelmaker.
“Since joining Steel Dynamics at our founding, Glenn’s enthusiasm and spirit of excellence have been incredible assets to our company,” SDI Founder, Chairman, and CEO Mark Millett said in a statement on Friday.
“I, along with our board and the entire Steel Dynamics family, wish Glenn the very best with his new endeavor within the titanium industry,” he added.
Pushis joined SDI in 1994 and was part of the team that built the SDI’s first mill in Butler, Ind., the company said.
He currently serves as senior vice president of special projects, a role in which he has overseen the design and construction of SDI’s new flat-rolled aluminum mill in Columbus, Miss. The aluminum project also includes two recycled aluminum slab casters – one each in the US and Mexico.
SDI said Pushis would continue to provide consulting services as those facilities are commissioned.
Pushis also oversaw the construction of SDI’s flat-rolled steel mill in Sinton, Texas. Prior to that, he had several senior roles in the company – including leadership of its long products group.
Miguel Alvarez will assume oversight of the new aluminum mill and associated operations on Oct. 1 as senior vice president of the company’s aluminum group.
Alvarez currently leads SDI’s metals recycling business, a position he has held since 2022.
SDI said it had a succession plan in place and would announce a new leader for its recycling operations “in the coming weeks.”
Recall that Alvarez joined SDI in 2019 as senior vice president of the Southwest US and Mexico, where the company has significantly expanded its presence in both steel and scrap.
Before joining SDI, Alvarez held leading roles in the steel industry – including as president of BlueScope Buildings North America and as president of North Star BlueScope.
