AISI names four new board members

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has named four new members to its board of directors.
The board has elected Clive Grannum, CEO of North American Stainless; Rick Marabito, CEO of Olympic Steel; Guillermo “Willy” Moreno, president, USA, of Tenaris; and Barry Zekelman, executive chairman and CEO of Zekelman Industries.
“Clive, Rick, Willy, and Barry are strong advocates for American steel and for combating the unfair trade practices that have dramatically impacted our industry,” AISI Chairman Lourenco Goncalves said in a statement on Monday.
Goncalves is also chairman, president, and CEO of steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs.
AISI President and CEO Kevin Dempsey added, “As we navigate this critical period in the history of our industry, we look forward to working with these strong and passionate leaders to advance AISI’s policy priorities.”
The announcement took place at AISI’s board of directors meeting, in conjunction with its general meeting in Washington D.C.

It’s official: Trump proclamation doubles S232 on imported steel, aluminum to 50%
President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening signed a proclamation that officially doubled Section 232 tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%. There was one exception: Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum from the United Kingdom will remain at 25%, according to a fact sheet published by the White House.

Cleveland-Cliffs Chairman, President and CEO Lourenco Goncalves offered full-throated support for Section 232 tariffs on imported steel being doubled to 50%. And the top executive of the Cleveland-based steelmaker said the steel industry wanted to see as few exceptions as possible to the tariffs.
