US steel shipments decreased month over month in July, but were up from last year, according to the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Domestic steel shipments totaled 7,797,929 short tons (st) in July. That’s down 0.7% from 7,854,290 st the previous month but is an 8.9% jump from 7,160,731 st in July 2024.
Canton, Ohio-based specialty metals manufacturer Metallus has been awarded a contract valued at up to $995 million by the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), part of the Department of War.
U.S. Steel is investing $28.3 million in its Great Lakes Works in Michigan, with upgrades planned for its pickle line during a 30-day outage starting in October.

The Michoacán-based engineering and construction company offered $1.4 billion in a court-supervised bankruptcy auction held Sept. 25.
