Alacero appoints Máximo Vedoya as president
Written by Kristen DiLandro
The Latin American Steel Association (Alacero) has chosen Máximo Vedoya as its new president.
Alacero announced the appointment of Ternium’s chief executive at its 63rd summit in Cartagena, Colombia, held last week.
During the summit, Vedoya said he’s concerned by mounting global trade tensions and China’s increasing influence. However, he said that he’s optimistic about the future.
“Today governments are recognizing the role of industry, and the region understands that we must compete, but do so in a fair way: not with predation or unfair practices, as is the case with China,” he said, as reported in a statement.
Vedoya served as the president of Alacero from 2019-21. He replaces Jorge Ribeiro de Oliveira, ArcelorMittal’s EVP – CEO of Flat South America, in the role.
