Steiner has worked at Finland-based stainless producer Outokumpu for more than a decade. He is now based at the company’s operations in Calvert, Ala., the location of its US headquarters.

“Johann’s expertise in the steel industry, particularly the stainless steel industry, brings an important perspective to our board,” AISI President and CEO Kevin Dempsey said in a statement on Wednesday. “We look forward to Johann’s outstanding participation on the many critical issues facing steel.”

Likewise, AISI Chairman Lourenco Goncalves, also chairman, president, and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs, welcomed Steiner.

“As a longtime leader in the stainless steel industry, Johann knows firsthand the critical policy issues facing American steel ― particularly regarding global unfair foreign trade practices that have impacted all AISI members,” Goncalves said.
