    Heidtman, Steel and Pipe Supply open JV in Granite City

    Heidtman Steel Products Inc. and Steel and Pipe Supply Co. have announced a joint venture called Granite City Processing LLC in Granite City, Ill., that commenced on Jan. 1.

    Granite City Processing is a toll operation. It will operate from the former Heidtman Steel Granite City, Ill., facility.

    “We are thrilled to partner with Steel and Pipe Supply in this exciting venture,” John Bates Jr., president and CEO of Heidtman Steel Products, said in a statement on Wednesday. “Together, we will unlock new opportunities and deliver exceptional value to our customers.”

    Capabilities

    Granite City Processing has a coil pickle line that can handle widths up to 72 inches and gauges up to 0.500 inches.

    Additionally, it has three slitters capable of dealing with gauges from 0.050 to 0.500 inches. It also includes two cut-to-length lines capable of processing coils from 0.109 to 0.500.

    The venture will add a light‑gauge slitter in 2026 and a 5/8-inch stretcher‑leveling cut‑to‑length line. Completion is targeted for early 2027, according to the statement.

    Toledo, Ohio-based Heidtman Steel Products is a steel service center specializing in flat‑rolled steel processing and distribution.

    Steel and Pipe Supply, a subsidiary of SPS Companies Inc., is a privately held carbon steel distributor with value-added, coil processing, and logistic capabilities, with its main office in Manhattan, Kan.
