Grupo Acerero SA de CV (GASA) reported increasing shipments at the end of 2025 as the steel producer ramps up a new slab mill in north-central Mexico.

The San Luis Potosí-based company saw fourth-quarter sales volumes rise 8.8% year over year to 247,000 tons. It cited a recovery in construction and higher domestic demand as the drivers of the increase. Q4’25 volumes were approximately 70% longs and 30% flat products vs. 75% longs and 25% flats a year earlier.

Q4’25 net sales totaled $3.639 billion Mexican pesos (~US$206.3 million), up 2.6% y/y, while net profit reached $177.7 million MXN, down 25% y/y.

For the year, sales volumes were 1.9% higher y/y at 948,000 tons, comprised of 73.4% longs and 26.6% flat products. 2025 net sales of $14.3 billion MXN were 5.7% lower y/y, while net profit rose 18% to $174.4 million MXN.

“The alignment between selling prices and raw material costs in the flat steel business has positively impacted margins,” the company said in its quarterly earnings report. “This situation is expected to have a further impact on results now that the Slab Steelworks project has begun operations.”

GASA began operating its new slab mill in San Luis Potosí in the fourth quarter after installing a new EAF and continuous caster. The mill’s slated capacity is 1.25 million tons of slab.

Grupo Acerero, founded in 1995, is part of Grupo Fonderia SA de CV, a San Luis Potosí-based company whose main activities are manufacturing, purchasing, importing, exporting, and assembling all types of iron and steel products. Grupo Acerero is the fourth largest producer of rebar and the top producer of steel plate in Mexico, according to its website.
