Steel Dynamics adjusts galvanized coating extras higher

Steel Dynamics Inc (SDI) has revised their metallic coating extras higher effective the week of July 6, 2026, on galvanized, Galvalume, Galfan, and aluminized type 1 products.

In an email sent to customers on Monday, the steelmaker attributed the increase to rising raw material costs, explaining, “Zinc has steadily climbed throughout the year and has triggered the need to address cost with LME zinc now above $1.50/lb.… Aluminum has now surpassed zinc and the Midwest Aluminum Premium holds at a record high of $1.14/lb.”

SMU’s comparison of old and new extras in Table 1 (click to expand) shows increases of 10-13% across all thicknesses, with an average increase of 11%.
