U.S. Steel adjusts galvanized and Galvalume coating extras higher

    Written by Brett Linton

U.S. Steel has increased its galvanized and Galvalume coating extras effective Aug. 2, 2026.

Other steelmakers have made similar revisions in response to increasing raw material costs, including Steel Dynamics, Wheeling Nippon, and Big River Steel this month.

SMU’s comparison of select old and new USS galvanized extras in Table 1 (click to expand) shows increases of 9-12% across all thicknesses, with an average increase of 11%.

Table 2 (click to expand) compares changes in USS Galvalume coating extras, which rose 18% across all thicknesses.

Next Tuesday SMU will update the extras for our G90 galvanized and AZ50 Galvalume price indices to match those of the latest USS price book. We will also update the coating extras behind our Price Estimator Tool.

SMU maintains copies of current mill price books, available for reference here on our website.
