AISI: Domestic steel shipments slip in April

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reports that US mill shipments fell from March to April.
AISI highlighted that steel shipments increased year over year.
Domestic mills shipped 7,664,757 short tons (st) in April. That’s down 6.6% from 8,204,611 st in March but a 1.1% bump from 7,580,635 st in April 2025.
Year-to-date shipments totaled 30,848,701 st through April. That’s up 3.6% vs. shipments of 29,777,94 st in the first four months of 2025.
Comparing YTD shipments to the first four months of 2025 shows the following: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip up 13%, hot-rolled sheet and strip up 4%, and cold-rolled sheet and strip down 4%.
