AISI: Domestic steel shipments increase in May

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reports that US mill shipments increased 6.2% in May from April.
AISI said shipments increased year over year.
Domestic mills shipped 8,141,900 short tons (st) in May. That’s a 6.2% increase from 7,664,757 st in April. And an 8.5% lift from 7,507,349 st in May 2025.
Year-to-date shipments totaled 38,990,601 st through May. That’s up 4.6% vs. shipments of 37,285,289 st in the first five months of 2025.
Comparing 2026 YTD shipments to the first five months of 2025 shows the following: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip up 13%, hot-rolled sheet and strip up 6%, and cold-rolled sheet and strip down 1%.
