USW president vows to use 'every resource' in contract talks
Written by Ethan Bernard
The United Steelworkers’ (USW) president released a video touting the union’s commitment to getting a good contract for its workers in the current negotiations.
Recall labor pacts with both U.S. Steel Corp. and Cleveland-Cliffs expire on Sept. 1. Talks with the companies are already underway.
“Right now we are at the table,” USW President Roxanne Brown told union members on Monday. “The bargaining committees are doing the hard work and making sure we get our piece of the pie.”
She continued: “Every resource that we can use to make sure that the bargaining is successful is at your disposal.”
Master contract negotiations between the USW and Cleveland-Cliffs, as well as with U.S. Steel, began on July 20. Some of the issues currently being discussed include wages, safety, and health care, among others.
