Private equity takes majority stake in Alro Steel
Written by Laura Miller
Alro Steel announced that a private equity firm is taking a majority stake in the Jackson, Mich.-based metals distribution company.
Lindsay Goldberg, a private investment firm specializing in family-owned and founder-led businesses, will make a significant strategic investment in Alro.
The Glick family, which founded Alro Steel in 1948, will maintain significant ownership interest, while Lindsay Goldberg will become the majority investor.
Alro will retain its name and brand, and daily operations will go unchanged. The Glick family and the existing leadership team will also remain in place.
The transaction is anticipated to close by the end of October.
Lindsay Goldberg says its “goal is to act as a catalyst for” Alro’s continued success.
“We are committed to supporting Alro’s future growth by providing the strategic guidance and capital needed to expand, all while ensuring that Alro’s workforce, culture and name remain firmly at the top of the metals service center industry,” stated Lindsay Goldberg Managing Partner Michael Dees.
“With Lindsay Goldberg’s support, we will have additional resources for future growth in metals and plastics,” explained Alro Chairman and CEO Randy Glick. “Day-to-day operations will continue exactly as they have, our executive team remains fully in place, and our valued teammates will continue to be the backbone of our success.”
