Reminder for Our SMU Steel Summit Attendees

Written by Brett Linton

SMU Steel Summit Attendees,

Thank you again for registering for the 7th SMU Steel Summit Conference, which is now less than a week away.

Here are some suggestions so that you may maximize your conference experience:

  • Download and review the Steel Market Update Events App. We are already using the App and it will be part of our program once the conference starts. We sent instructions to those who have not yet downloaded the App yesterday morning.
  • Listing of attendees is listed in the App. You can search by individual’s name or company name. You can also send a message through the App.
  • For help downloading or using the App, contact Brett Linton at Brett@SteelMarketUpdate.com or 706-216-2140.
  • Networking is an important piece of any SMU event. We have an informal cocktail/networking party at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway Hotel on Monday beginning around 4:30 PM ET. On Tuesday, there is a cocktail/networking party at the convention center immediately after the last panel of the day (4 PM ET).
  • Bring business cards.
  • Dress is business casual – jackets and ties are not required. Our suggestion is to wear company logo shirts if you have them.
  • Monday, Aug. 28 – Registration/check-in begins in the Marriott Gateway Hotel at noon and lasts until 6 PM ET. Pre-Summit Conference begins at 2 PM ET in Salons E-H in the Marriott Gateway Hotel. There are two programs, which will end at 4:30 PM.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday – Registration/check-in is in the lobby of the Georgia International Convention Center located next to the Marriott and across the street from the Renaissance and SpringHill Suites hotels.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday programs begin at 8 AM Sharp.
  • Transportation to hotels and GICC is via the SkyTrain, which runs from the airport to Gateway Hotels/GICC and then on to Rental Cars. The train is free of charge.
  • For those driving – the convention center is located on Camp Creek Parkway just west of I-85 and the airport. We are in the south side of the convention center. There is a parking deck on that side of the building.
  • Dinner on Monday and Tuesday – there is a restaurant in the Marriott. For higher-end dining options, we suggest taking a cab or Uber to downtown or Midtown Atlanta. Some recommended restaurants: South City Kitchen, Ecco, Lure, Chops, Bones, Alma Cocina, Buckhead Diner.
  • Please stay until the end as we have arranged for a powerful ending to this year’s conference. Political commentator Michael Smerconish will speak immediately after lunch on Wednesday to be followed by an excellent panel on attracting young people into the manufacturing and steel industries. The conference will end at approximately 3 PM ET. The airport is 10 minutes away from the GICC via the SkyTrain.
  • Lastly, the conference is a 100 percent sell-out. Every seat is spoken for. We will have our staff help locate seats for those arriving late.

See you early next week. Have a safe journey to Atlanta. Early indications are for temperatures in the low 80s…

Sincerely,

John Packard
