U.S. Steel Exports Steady in October

U.S. steel exports in October totaled 895,879 net tons (812,729 metric tons), down 0.8 percent over September, but up 17.0 percent from October 2016. Total exports have averaged around 880,000 tons over the last few months after reaching a 2.5-year high in May (1,006,087 tons). The total October export figure is below the three-month moving average (average of August 2017, September 2017 and October 2017), but above the 12-month moving average (average of November 2016 through October 2017). Here is a breakdown of flat rolled and plate steel exports:
Cut plate exports increased 18.8 percent from September to 113,718 tons, up 53.3 percent compared to levels one year ago.
Exports of coiled plate were 44,154 tons in October, down 3.4 percent month over month, but up 48.3 percent year over year.
Hot rolled steel exports decreased 23.3 percent month over month to 81,755 tons, but were up 19.9 percent from October 2016 levels.
Exports of cold rolled products were 54,398 tons in October, down 5.9 percent from September, but up 3.3 percent over the same month last year.
Galvanized exports fell 8.5 percent month over month to 112,893 tons. Compared to one year ago, October levels were up 1.4 percent.
Exports of all other metallic coated products came in at 23,914 tons, a 14.4 percent increase from September, and a 33.5 percent increase compared to one year ago.
