Canadian Service Center Shipments and Inventories in July

Canadian shipments for all steel products in the month of July were 482,400 net tons, an increase of 0.3 percent from the month before and an increase of 5.0 percent from July 2013. Inventories at the end of the month stood at 1,467,800 tons, up 5.5 percent from last month and up 0.4 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for July was 25,455 tons (22 day month), up from 23,171 tons the month before (21 day month). Total July receipts were 71,900 tons higher than the June figure. According to the MSCI, total months on hand stood at 3.0 months, up from 2.9 months the previous month but down from 3.2 months in July 2013.
Flat Rolled
Canadian shipments of flat rolled products for the month of July were 248,200 tons, an increase of 2.6 percent from the month before, and an increase of 4.7 percent from the same month one year ago. Inventories at the end of the month were 749,300 tons, up 8.3 percent from last month but down 8.6 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily receipt rate for July was 13,913 tons, up from 11,034 tons the month before. Total tonnage received was 305,600 tons, up from 232,000 tons the month before. At the end of July, flat rolled inventories stood at 3.0 months, up from 2.9 months in June but down from 3.5 months one year ago.
Plate
Canadian shipments for plate products in the month of July were 87,800 tons, a decrease of 3.1 percent from the month before, but an increase of 0.9 percent from July 2013. Inventories at the end of the month were 294,900 tons, an increase of 4.7 percent from last month and an increase of 11.4 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for July was 4,598 tons, down from 5,355 tons the month before. Plate inventories stood at 3.4 months, up from 3.1 months the previous month and up from 3.0 months in July 2013.
Pipe and Tube
Canadian shipments for pipe and tube products in the month of July were 54,300 tons, a decrease of 1.8 percent from the month before but an increase of 8.8 percent from the same month last year. Inventories at the end of the month were 147,900 tons, up 1.9 percent from last month and up 13.5 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for July was 2,600 tons, up from 2,483 tons the month before. At the end of July, total months on hand for pipe and tube inventories stood at 2.7 months, up from 2.6 months in June and up from 2.6 months one year ago.
