December Final Imports at 2.3 Million Tons

On Friday the U.S. Department of Commerce released Final Census data for foreign steel imports for the month of December 2015. Imports totaled 2,342,582 net tons.
We saw very low numbers on semi-finished (mostly slabs) which came in under 300,000 net tons. We also saw low numbers on OCTG, galvanized and other metallic (mostly Galvalume).
Total steel imports for 2015 totaled 38,739,131 net tons. Last year’s total was below the 44,338,039 net tons which arrived on U.S. soil during the previous year.

Thin demand keeps plate prices hovering at lowest levels since February
