SMU Price Ranges: Sheet and plate climb higher
Written by Brett Linton
All five of SMU’s sheet and plate price indices rose to new multi-month highs this week.
Sheet prices rose $5-25 per short ton (st) from last week, an upwards trend seen since September. Plate moved upwards for the second-consecutive week, jumping $35/st week over week (w/w).
Our hot-rolled coil index increased $25/st this week to $1,005/st. This marks the first time our average has been over $1,000/st since January 2024.
Prices for tandem products are all at 11-month highs. Cold rolled increased $5/st w/w to $1,140/st. Galvanized and Galvalume each rose $10/st this week to $1,110/st and $1,135/st, respectively.
Plate moved up $35/st this week to $1,115/st, the highest it has been since July 2025.
SMU’s price momentum indicator remains at higher for both sheet and plate products, signaling we expect prices to increase further in the short term.
