A worker at Nucor-Yamato was killed in an accident at the Blytheville facility on Tuesday.
Locomotive operator Bobby Sellars was injured when caught between two rail cars while working in the rail yard on Tuesday afternoon.
Nucor-Yamato vice president and general manager Leon Topalian released the following statement on Wednesday:
Nucor-Yamato Steel Company is investigating a workplace fatality which occurred at our facility in Blytheville on Tuesday afternoon. The mill suspended operations immediately following the incident, and will be working with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) officials to investigate the cause of the incident.
On behalf of the almost 1,000 teammates in our Nucor-Yamato family, I want to express my sympathies to the family and friends of Bobby Sellars. We are deeply saddened by this event.
Bobby was fatally injured while working in the facility’s rail yard. He was a locomotive operator at our facility, and had been a Nucor-Yamato teammate for 27 years.
We will have members of Nucor’s employee assistance program available to meet with our teammates.
