SMU Steel Summit to Feature SDI’s Mark Millett
Written by Sandy Williams
July 27, 2020
Steel Dynamics CEO Mark Millett is “incredibly excited” about the company’s new flat rolled mill currently under construction in Sinton, Texas. The new mill will have a capacity of 3 million tons and include a 550,000 ton galvanizing line and 250,000 ton paint line. Millett will offer an update on the project and his perspective on the market as a speaker during Steel Market Update’s virtual steel summit next month.
The EAF mill will serve three Southern and West Coast regional markets representing 27 million tons of relevant flat rolled consumption. The Sinton mill will also be among the lowest greenhouse gas emitters in the steel industry–less than 15 percent of the average producer, SDI claims.
“We believe our performance-based operating culture, coupled with our considerable experience and success in constructing and operating highly profitable steel assets, positions us incredibly well to successfully execute the transformational Texas growth investment,” said Millett during Q2 earnings comments. “As I have said before, we are not simply adding flat-rolled production capacity. We have a differentiated product offering, a unique regional supply chain solution, a significant geographic freight and lead time advantage, and offer an import alternative to a region in need of options.”
Millett is just one of the mill CEOs slated to speak at the SMU Steel Summit 2020, scheduled for Aug. 24-26. Click here for more information and to register.
