There’s still time to sign up for the few spots remaining in the next Steel 101: Introduction to Steel Making & Market Fundamentals workshop, a virtual event to be held Oct. 5-6.
This workshop was conducted in person for many years and has trained more than 1,000 individuals within the steel industry. We took the workshop into our virtual platform in December 2020 and have now successfully conducted four virtual classes to rave reviews.
“I think SMU has done a fantastic job condensing so much valuable information into a short amount of time, while keep the atmosphere fun and well paced. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and have decades of experience. I will be recommending this workshop to my peers.” Brian Hunt, Supply Quality Manager, McNICHOLS CO.
“It was such a pleasure to join you all in the Steel 101 workshop. I have come to depend on the insights available on Steel Market Update, and it was great to learn from these experts about how the steel industry functions.” Onely Flores, Inside Sales Associate, Harbor Pipe & Steel
Workshop attendees will be exposed to the following topics (and more):
- Understand how steel is made (flat and long)
- Understand where steel is used
- Understand the fundamentals that drive steel market pricing
- Understand how you can navigate the market
- Understand the raw materials used in steelmaking
- Understand the melting and casting process
- Understand the rolling processes for both flat and long products

Final Thoughts
The difference: The spat with Turkey was a big deal for steel. This time, the 50% reciprocal tariff for Brazil – if it goes into effect as threatened on Aug.1 – hits everything from coffee and to pig iron. It seems almost custom-built to inflict as much pain as possible on Brazil.
