SMU Community Chat: Nov. 15 With CAR President and CEO Alan Amici
Written by Michael Cowden
November 1, 2023
SMU will host a Community Chat on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 12 pm ET with Alan Amici, president and CEO of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR). (Note we are holding this chat an hour later than our usual 11 am ET time.)
The webinar is free for all to attend live. A recording will be available to SMU subscribers. You can register here.

What We’ll Discuss
The auto industry is shifting from the internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric vehicle (EV) propulsion. This is the most significant change in the over 100-year history of the automobile. Investment in EVs has been substantial in the past two years, with more than $35 billion committed to assembly and battery production in North America alone.
R&D priorities are shifting to meet future market demand. This movement from ICEs to EVs was also a focal point in negotiations between the United Auto Workers (UAW) union and the “Big Three” Detroit-area automakers: General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis.
Tentative agreements have been reached between the union and the automakers. So what impact did the strike have on the automotive ecosystem, how quickly can the supply chain recover, and what do the new contracts mean for stakeholders across the auto industry?
Why You Should Listen
Alan joined CAR after a 35+ year career with Chrysler and TE Connectivity, where he held a variety of positions in engineering, manufacturing, and service. His roles at TE Connectivity included VP and CTO of Transportation Solutions and VP of Engineering of Automotive Americas. Highlights of his tenure at Chrysler include Head of Global Uconnect – Infotainment and Connected Car Platform, Head of Electrical/Electronics Engineering (Torino, Italy, and Auburn Hills, Mich.), and Senior Manager of Global Service and Parts (Stuttgart, Germany).

SMU Community Chat: Wednesday With AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson
We’ll have a lot to talk about because construction is at the intersection of so many of today’s hot-button issues. The main question: Will construction thrive or dive in the rest of ’25? (Nothing wrong with a rhyme, even in serious times.)
