Lapham-Hickey Steel has acquired the operating assets of Crystal Steel Corp. of Middleton, Mass., for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 1979 by John Diamont, Crystal Steel is a distributor of hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and coated slit coil in the New England market.
Lapham-Hickey will transition most of the Crystal equipment, inventory, and customer service to their Pawcatuck, Conn., location. One slitting line will be transferred to their Madison, Ill., facility.
“Crystal Steel is a great complement to our existing Connecticut business,” said Lapham-Hickey president Brian Hickey. He remarked that these slitting line additions will almost double the capacity of their Pawcatuck facility.
Lapham-Hickey Steel is a fourth-generation family-owned carbon steel service center headquartered in Bedford Park, Ill., with 13 locations throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and Southeast. They supply a range of slit coil, sheet, plate, bars, tubing, and fabricated products.
