Nucor keeps HRC price unchanged
Written by David Schollaert
March 31, 2025
Nucor paused its weekly hot-rolled (HR) coil price this week, keeping it flat for the first time since Jan. 21. This comes after a nine-week rally that saw the company increase prices by double-digits for eight of those weeks.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker told customers on Monday this week’s consumer spot price (CSP) for HR coil would be $935 per short ton (st). That price is good across Nucor mills, except for its joint-venture subsidiary California Steel Industries (CSI), whose HR price also remained flat week over week (w/w) at $995/st.
The letter to customers stated that lead times of three to five weeks will continue to be offered, but they should contact a Nucor sales representative to confirm.
You can track announced steel price increases on the steel mill price announcement calendar on our website.
In last week’s market check, SMU assessed HR coil prices at $890-1,000/st. Our interactive pricing tool shows the average price of $945/st, down $5/st from the previous week. We also calculated the average lead time for the HR sheet to be 5.6 weeks.
