Final Thoughts

July 31, 2025
You’re traveling through another dimension – a dimension not only of steel and tariffs but also of raw materials, scrap, the economy, and more. This is a journey into a wondrous land whose only boundaries are those of the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) in Atlanta.
Your next stop… No, it’s not The Twilight Zone (though this year has admittedly been a little weird). You guessed it. It’s SMU Steel Summit 2025. Are you signed up and ready for liftoff?
We’ve already broken the 1,200-attendee mark, and we’re charging towards the record of 1,500. If you haven’t registered yet for the event, what are you waiting for? You can do so here.
But you’re not just a number with us. If you’ve already registered, you should have already received an email from conferences@crugroup.com with your login details for the Steel Summit app. (It could take a few hours after registering before you receive your login details.)
Note that both the desktop and mobile versions are now available. Click here to download it.
Let’s get ready to mingle
With the app live, you are free to start up your networking engines.
No need to wait for your arrival. You can find all the companies and attendees in the app. Feel free to set up some meetings beforehand – whether it be a coffee, a drink, or an off-site dinner. (The Atlanta Eater has some good suggestions, including some spots near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.)
Don’t forget to update your profile on the app with your bio and headshot. And then you’re off to the races.
I voted
You can use the app at the event itself to keep track of the agenda, ask questions of our speakers, and participate in interactive polls.
As we do almost every year, we’ll ask where you think steel prices will be a year from now. No penalty for wrong answers. I mean, we’re all still sorting out the pieces from “Liberation Day.” Who knows where we’ll be in 12 months?
Are there any poll questions you’re dying to have answered? We’ve gotten answers on the presidential election (the crowd correctly predicted last year that Trump would win), the fate of the USS-Nippon deal, and the Evraz NA sale. What’s something else you’re dying to know?
Drop us an email at info@steelmarketupdate.com. We’ll load some of those questions into the app for the first day of the Summit. That’s when SMU’s Michael Cowden and David Schollaert will bring those questions to all of you for a live vote.
Hotels abound
So where are you going to stay? Many options remain, but they get more scarce with each passing day
Though the GICC area itself may be pricey (with some hotels already sold out), there are many hotels within a few minutes’ drive.
Below is by no means an exhaustive list. And it comes with no official endorsement from SMU or our parent company CRU. That said, as of this writing they are all currently listed as having availability Aug. 25-27. We hope this helps!
Radisson Hotel Atlanta Airport – 4 minutes by car
The Westin Atlanta Airport – 4 minutes by car
Hotel Indigo Atlanta Airport College Park – 5 minutes by car
Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Airport College Park – 5 minutes by car
Atlanta Airport Marriott – 5 minutes by car
Embassy Suites by Hilton Atlanta Airport – 6 minutes by car
Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport/Millennium Center – 6 minutes by car
Country Inn Suites by Radisson, Atlanta – 9 minutes by car
By the way, there should be no shortage of Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis in the area. Remember, we’ll be near Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport, the busiest airport in the world – so getting in and out and finding a place to stay shouldn’t be too rough.
In fact, you might not even need a car. The GICC is connected to the airport by a free tram.
See you on Aug. 25-27 in Atlanta!
We are all excited at SMU about this year’s Steel Summit. What a year it’s been so far. There’s so much to talk about. We can’t wait to see so many of you in August at the GICC in Atlanta!
