Nucor Plate Group maintains prices for 6th consecutive month

Nucor Plate Group has informed customers that August spot prices will remain flat.
In its Aug. 4 pricing notification letter, the Charlotte, N.C.-based steel producer stated that new orders would be subject to the same prices the group set on March 28.
Following four price increases at the start of 2025, taking plate prices up by $300/short ton (st) from January to March, Nucor has kept spot prices level.
In March, the company set quenched-and-tempered glass base prices at roughly $132.25 per cwt and base prices for normalized plate at $73.75/cwt.
A Midwest-based service center operator expected that Nucor would continue to hold its prices.
“No surprises. Demand is OK,” he said. “We should see increased activity in 4-6 weeks, so no need to reduce due to seasonality.”
The same operator contends that his spot price this week is about $1,100/st or $55/cwt ex-works, domestic mill.
SMU’s plate price stands at $1,080/st on average as of July 29, according to SMU’s interactive pricing tool, which you can find here. We will update prices on Tuesday.
