    Written by David Schollaert

JSW Steel USA aims to increase prices by at least $40 per short ton (st) for steel plate.

The Baytown, Texas-based steelmaker announced the increase, effective immediately for all non-contract orders, in a letter to customers dated Nov. 7.

The company said the price hike applied equally to both as-rolled and normalized plate products.

Its published extras will also remain in effect, the letter said.

You can track mill pricing announcements on our website calendar.

SMU’s plate price stands at $1,000/st on average. Plate prices ticked up $10/st vs. the prior week, according to SMU’s interactive pricing tool, which you can find here.

JSW Steel USA operates the Mingo Junction slab and hot-rolled sheet mill in Ohio and the Baytown plate and pipe and tube mill in Texas.
