Hybar taps Baker for metallics procurement

    Written by Laura Miller

Martin Baker is joining Hybar as its strategic metallics manager.

In the role, Baker will further develop the metallics procurement and global strategic initiatives for the Osceola, Ark.-based steelmaker.

Baker previously worked at Big River Steel, where he led a team responsible for procuring over 6 million tons of scrap metal and substitutes each year.

Hybar CEO Dave Stickler said he first worked with Baker when they developed the flat-rolled steel mill in Columbus, Miss., that is now owned by Steel Dynamics. The two also worked together at Big River, now part of U.S. Steel, where Baker was “instrumental in developing our metallics procurement effort,” according to Stickler.

Hybar’s new rebar mill in Osceola is on track to produce over 700,000 tons next year. And plans are already “underway for a doubling of capacity,” the company said.
