Metalformers see stable to improving business conditions
Written by Laura Miller
Metalforming manufacturers in the US and Canada expect stable to improving economic conditions in the next three months.
The Precision Metalforming Association’s (PMA) Business Conditions Report for February showed 53% of respondents expecting no change in general economic activity in the next few months. Still, 41% expect increasing activity.
A majority of respondents (57%) anticipate orders to rise in the coming months, while 41% expect no change. Those forecasting a decline in orders fell from 10% in January to just 2% in February.
Metalformers’ shipping levels rose in both January and February, with 34% reporting an increase in current average daily shipping levels in February vs. 20% the month before. Half of those surveyed reported no change in shipping levels. Those seeing a decrease in shipping levels declined from 30% in January to 16% in February.
“Metalformers continue to benefit from the tax certainty and pro-manufacturing provisions included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including the restoration of 100% bonus depreciation and full expensing of R&D investments,” PMA President David Klotz said. “These policies are helping manufacturers invest in equipment and innovation.”
He warned, however, “Greater clarity and predictability in trade policy will be crucial to sustaining growth.”
