Commerce sets final duties on Algerian rebar as other trade cases progress

    Written by Laura Miller

The US Commerce Department has set final anti-dumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVDs) on rebar from Algeria, according to filings in the Federal Register.

Commerce determined a weighted-average dumping margin of 127.32% and a final subsidy rate of 72.94% for Tosyali Iron Steel Industry Algeria and all other Algerian companies.

Recall the ongoing trade investigation is also looking at rebar imports from Bulgaria, Egypt, and Vietnam. Preliminary CVDs were previously established for Egypt (29.51%) and Vietnam (1.08%). Bulgaria is not a part of the subsidy investigation.

Preliminary dumping margins have also been set in those probes, at 52.80% for Bulgaria, 34.20-52.73% for Egypt, and 121.97-130.77% for Vietnam. The petitioner, the Rebar Action Trade Coalition (RTAC), had requested the postponement of those initial decisions. Therefore, the final determinations are delayed until the end of May.

RTAC is comprised of Nucor, Steel Dynamics, CMC, Gerdau, Byer Steel, and Optimus Steel.
