Written by Laura Miller
Mexican steelmaker Talleres y Aceros SA de CV (Tyasa) has placed an order from Primetals Technologies for a twin vacuum degassing plant to be installed at its Ixtaczoquitlán mill in southeastern Mexico.
Installation will be carried out with minimal production impact, according to the equipment provider. Start-up is anticipated for October 2027.
Primetals said the new VD plant will boost Tyasa’s meltshop performance and capacity. It will be dedicated to Tyasa’s 500,000-ton-per-year Castrip casting and rolling plant.
Tyasa is a family-owned company producing flat and coated steels, special steels, and long steels for the construction industry. It has an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons, according to its website, and locations in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz; Silao, Guanajuato; Mérida, Yucatán; and Arriaga, Chiapas.
